Department of Traditional Pharmacy of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences started its activities in 2012 and is now active with 2 full-time faculty members. Providing educational units to the assistants of traditional pharmacy and traditional medicine in Ph.D., pharmacy students in professional doctoral degree and master students in medical history is among the educational activities of this group. Group's research activities in the form of presenting student dissertations and research projects are being carried out with the following priorities:

• Familiarity with the basics of traditional pharmacy and updating the terms and vocabulary in related books

• Review of traditional pharmacy resources to identify, review and correct related texts and books

• Evaluating and conducting clinical studies on pharmaceutical forms used in traditional medicine

• Optimization of pharmaceutical forms used in traditional medicine with modern tools and forms of modern pharmacy and drug delivery

• Qualitative, quantitative and microbial control of herbal medicines based on traditional formulations

• Investigation of the effects of medicinal plants in the field of antioxidant, cytotoxic, antibacterial and ...

• Extraction and identification of compounds and active ingredients of various medicinal plants with emphasis on native plants of the province

• Revival, improvement and integration of traditional medicines in the health system of the country
